With no breaks in the first set, it was a tight affair. Some shaky points from Ruud almost lost him the tiebreaker after being up 6-2, but grabbed it 8-6 from an unforced error of the Canadian. There was only one break in the match, coming midway through the second set, and closed off the match nicely.
