An early scare for the 3rd seed being down a break in the first game of the first set, but fans of Ruud were not worried, as Ruud was strong enough to face a quality opponent despite a ranking of 249. Kopriva would only eventuate with 1/1 break points, whereas Ruud went on to claim 5/10 break point opportunities.
Hugo Gaston d Laslo Djere (7) 3-6 6-3 6-3
After a mammoth win over Cristian Garin, many thought Gaston would be too tired. Especially after the first set, many thought Gaston would flail, and give up, but with a chance to lock in his place in the final, the Frenchman had a chance in the first set, and knew it was possible. Gaston moved Djere around with his traditional drop shot, and made a statement, booking in his spot in his first ATP Tour level final!
