ATP Halle 🇩🇪 Day 1 Results

Corentin Moutet d David Goffin (7) 1-6 7-5 (WALKOVER) Unfortunately for Goffin, an injury gained early in the second set meant that he could not close it out. What was interesting is that the betting odds did not sway, so anyone watching the match would have won quite a bit.

Jordan Thompson d Daniel Altmaier 6-2 7-6(4)

Thompson was simply too good on grass. He had a decent two rounds in the Stuttgart open, and seems to be finding some form here. Surprisingly not allowing any break point opportunities, and keeping his head strong. The Aussie winning 85% of his serves, comparing to 56% for the German.

Marcos Giron d Vasek Pospisil 7-6(4) 7-6(6)

Giron has had the better clay record, and honestly it was just who had the bigger and better serve. Statistically the match was very close, but it was the American to come out on top (Surprise surprise)

Sebastian Korda d Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3 7-6(0)

Korda was simply too good, being the aggressor in most of the points. RBA has dropped his level a lot being last Wimbledon's Semi-Finalist. The young guns are well and truly here to stick around. Korda looks comfortable on the grass surface, serving 13 aces to 1.

Roger Federer (5) Ilya Ivashka 7-6(4) 7-5

Only 1 break throughout the match, but the GOAT just directed and controlled the ball beautifully around the court. The one thing that Federer does that not a lot of people do, is coming into the net after a shot. Federer rushes the net, and I assume will continue to do so as he wishes to close points earlier on due to his age. Something to watch out for.
