Brandon Nakashima d Jordan Thompson (5) 6-3 4-6 7-6(4)
A very even match statistically, and these sort of matches usually go to the more experienced player. However, there is something special about Brandon Nakashima. The 20yo producing some inspiring tennis to sustain the momentum in the third set tiebreaker. Thompson had his chances, but could not convert.
John Isner (2) d Alex Bolt 6-3 6-4
Isner serving 21 aces to 2 in a nice straight sets victory for the American. Bolt just could not crack Isner's incredible serve, having no opportunities to break either. Isner is also in the doubles SF, so he needs to be careful at 36 to not waste energy, especially when its 30 degrees celsius on the Mexican hard courts.
Cameron Norrie (1) d Ernest Escobedo 6-1 6-1
Norrie went about his business with ease, knocking out the American to eliminate the chance of an all-American semi final. Norrie winning 84% of first serves and converting 5/14 break point opportunities compared to the American with 57% and 0/1 break point opportunities.
Taylor Fritz (3) d Steve Johnson (6) 6-4 6-4
These two have had some nice battles over time, with this the first match to be a straight sets win. Johnson just could not convert today, whether it be 30-30, or break points (0/4), everything seemed to go the 23yo way. Fritz seems to be recovering well from his knee surgery.
