Some unforced errors by the Italian allowed the young American to race to a first set, with a much tighter second set. Cecchinato threatened to break, but some close calls led to Korda breaking. Incredibly, Cecchinato would lose a point for throwing his towel after his second warning, so Cecchinato would start his service game to stay in the match 0-15, and would not recover.
